Providing A Variety of Acute Care Services
The acute-care unit at Weston County Health Services is a patient- and family-focused unit where care is provided for medical and surgical patients across the age spectrum.
Highly qualified nursing personnel, include registered nurses, and certified nursing assistants, work as a coordinated team to perform the many duties in a 12-hour shift, which include coordinating plans of care with other facilities and departments, passing of medications, and providing discharge education for families and patients.
This is by no means all they do, as they attend to the psychosocial, physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the patients. Weston County Health Services under the Critical Access Hospital Designation is able to provide swing bed services, which are certified by Medicare and Medicaid. A full range of clinical services including physical, occupational, speech and respiratory therapy, x-ray, laboratory, and pharmacy are readily accessible because the swing bed program is part of the hospital. Patients are able to recover from surgery, extended illness, and other types of disease processes that require them to receive some type of rehabilitation prior to going home.
